Vancouver woman releases statement after fatal I-205 crash killed husband

The Vancouver woman who sadly live-tweeted the car collision that killed her husband last week released a media statement, thanking people for their thoughts and support. Caran Johnson’s statement was posted on the You Caring page for Johnson’s family. So far, $11,885 has been raised for the family, surpassing the $10,000 goal.

“I want to thank everyone who has helped my family and me through this most difficult time. We are so blessed to have so many people share their kind thoughts and prayers with us. We are overwhelmed by the support we have received.

“I would also like to sincerely thank those that graciously donated money. First and foremost, the money will help with the costs associated with the funeral and service for Craig. It will also make it possible for me to continue to earn my teaching degree, as Craig was working hard to support our family while I am in school. With your donations, I will also be able to provide Christmas for our sons, and I cannot express how grateful I am for this.

“Unfortunately, it seems that most of the media attention has been about my family’s loss. I want to let Carol Shelley and her family know that we are so very sorry that she was hurt in this tragic accident. We are thinking of her and praying for her fast recovery.”

Carol Shelley, 54, of Tacoma was injured when Craig Johnson’s Hyundai Elantra left the northbound lanes of I-205 and struck her southbound Toyota pickup head-on. Shelley was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

Johnson goes on to talk about the type of person and father her husband was.

“Most importantly, I want to share some things about Craig and who he was. He was an incredible person who loved his family beyond belief. He looked forward to playing Legos with Cameron and teaching Bryce to play the guitar. He had an amazing sense of humor and laughed every day. Even when things were rough, he found a reason to laugh. He had a deep love for nature, especially birds, and we would often visit Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge. He was a MOPAR guy. His dream was to get a ’66 Nova and rebuild it with Bryce.

“He was so kind and caring of others. He thought of others before he thought of himself. He was loved by so many people and will be missed terribly.”

Johnson has evidently gone silent on Twitter as her handle @ScanCouver no longer exists. Previously, Johnson tweeted about being barraged by the media inquiries and said that she did not want to speak to reporters yet. The story went around the world, reaching major publications such as CNN, BBC News and the Sydney Morning Herald.
