Talking Points: Longtime record now just long

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

Forever, it seemed, 63 was the magic number for field goals in the NFL.

Now its 64 after Broncos kicker Matt Prater broke the long-standing NFL record for longest field goal made.

Yes, it was at altitude in Denver, same as two of the four 63-yarders from years past. “But I think the 10-degree weather takes out the altitude,” Prater said.

The record was first established in 1970, which does seems like forever ago.

Dare to dream about next year this time when the BCS will be just a page in the history books.

A final four of college football this year would have been fun. Florida State vs. Michigan State, Auburn vs. Alabama rematch … ahhh, just think of the ratings.

For one more bowl season we have what we have: Florida State vs. Auburn for all the marbles.

The southeast corner of the United States is smiling, even if many others don’t really care.

We hear at Talking Points Central do like the season’s opening bowl: Washington State vs. Colorado State at the New Mexico Bowl.

Of course we have the regional fanbase of Cougars and that they haven’t been bowling for a while, so that’s neat.

We also have Colorado State quarterback Garrett Grayson, a Heritage High grad, leading the Rams.

That should be fun.
