Temperatures are predicted to again plummet into the teens in Clark County this weekend, but forecasters say it won’t feel like it.
It will feel colder.
When an expected east wind kicks up by Friday night and Saturday, it could push the wind chill down into the single digits or even below zero, according to the National Weather Service in Portland.
“If you’re looking to be outside … definitely dress accordingly,” said weather service meteorologist Matthew Cullen. “Wear layers. Limit your exposed skin.”
At Pearson Field, the temperature dipped to 15 degrees early Thursday. It marked the third straight day that Vancouver either tied or broke a low-temperature record, according to the weather service.
After a night of temperatures in the 20s tonight, lows could sink close to 15 degrees Friday night into Saturday, then again Saturday night into Sunday. Depending on how low the mercury drops, both could be good enough for daily records. And strong winds, gusting as high as 30 mph in Vancouver, could make conditions dangerously chilly, according to a statement issued by the weather service Thursday.
People should be mindful of pets and exposed pipes during extreme cold, Cullen said.
As for snow, forecasters expect only a slight chance of flurries in Southwest Washington tonight. Areas farther south, including Oregon’s Willamette Valley, stand a better chance of accumulating snow, Cullen said.
Temperatures are expected to climb back above freezing and into more normal territory next week, according to the weather service.
