Girls basketball: La Center 63, Stevenson 27

Katie Whitten had 26 points, 12 steals and four assists to lead La Center to an easy win in the Trico League opener.

Shelby Vermuelen and Rachel Moudy each added eight points and Katie Hebdon had six rebounds as the Wildcats built a 40-9 lead by halftime.

“We had a lot of young girls playing tonight, so that kind of scared me,” La Center coach Herm VanWeerdhuizen said. “But they stepped up and played well tonight.”
