Hazel Dell — After more than half her life painting, 88-year-old Kathleen New was proud to be highlighted recently in her first solo show at First Congregational Church in Vancouver. Many of New’s watercolor and pastel paintings were displayed at her church in late November in an exhibition organized by a handful of church members. New typically creates meaningful paintings as gifts for family and friends, said her daughter Margie Livingston. She also has made a few that remind her of places and moments that are special to her, including her granddaughters at the beach and a spot where she camped as a girl.
