Try This: 12th Hands Across the Bridge

The 12th annual Hands Across the Bridge will kick off the day’s celebration of recovery from alcohol and drug addiction. Families and supporters will hold hands across the Interstate 5 Bridge, walking to and from Esther Short Park. The ceremony will be followed by Oxfest, featuring area bands, along with family activities, games, vendors and speakers sharing their personal stories. The event is sponsored by the Oxford Houses of Oregon and Washington.

When: 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday.

Where: Esther Short Park, 301 W. Eighth St., Vancouver.

Admission: Free.

The celebration is one of many options for getting out and about this weekend.

  1. Vintage inspired

Discover a bit of antique flair during the fifth annual Camas Vintage Street Faire as more than 40 invited vintage and antique vendors offer ideas for those looking to create the perfect vintage home and garden. Following the street fair, the Downtown Camas Association will host an Evening in White, a themed outdoor dinner with music by Matt Brown, vintage cocktails and dancing. The event will benefit the Camas-Washougal Mural Project. Guests are asked to wear white and have the option to bring a picnic, or they can chose a fully catered meal. There will be a contest for the best-decorated table.

When: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 11 p.m. today.

Where: Downtown Camas, Northeast Fourth Ave.

Admission: Free for the street fair, $30 to $70 for those 21 and older for the dinner.

  1. Animated love

Kumoricon returns to downtown Vancouver as Japanese animation and comic book fans gather for a three-day convention of video games, panels, screenings, costume contests, performances and dances. Special guests include voice actors, artists from Periscope Studios, Dark Horse Comics and FUNimation. Minors ages 13 to 17 are required to have a signed parent permission form to attend the convention. Minors 12 and younger must be accompanied by a paid adult.

When: Registration is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. today through Sunday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday.

  1. Dog days of summer

Four-legged swimmers are invited to take a Pooch Plunge at the Marshall Community Center Pool. Before the city of Vancouver drains the pool for annual maintenance, dogs can have a little fun, with lifeguards on hand, along with goodie bags, toys and contests. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Humane Society for Southwest Washington. All participating dogs must be friendly, willing to swim and current on their vaccines. Participants should enter through the back pool patio doors to the community center

When: 1 to 4 p.m. Monday.

  1. The ‘One Direction’ phenomenon

Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Liam Payne reflect on their recent rise to fame as the boy band One Direction in this music documentary. From hometown beginnings to selling out London’s famed O2 Arena, the film follows the five friends during their life on the road. “One Direction: This Is Us” is rated PG.
