Sammi Hampton of Vancouver won singles and doubles titles at the United States Tennis Association Pacific Northwest Junior Sectional Championships.
A junior-to-be at Skyview High School, Hampton won in the division for girls 18 and younger.
She beat Erin Larner of Portland 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the singles final. In doubles, she teamed with Whitney Williams of Anchorage, Alaska, to beat Larner and Sabina Demerath of Kenmore 8-6 in the finals.
The tournament, which featured top junior players from Washington, Oregon, Alaska and British Columbia, was played Aug. 15-19 ay the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Beaverton, Ore.
Andrew Newell of Vancouver was the runner-up in singles for boys 16 and younger. Jackson Suh of Bellevue beat Newell in a third-set tiebreaker. Newell teamed with Dylan King of Portland to win the boys 16s doubles title.
Nicole Knudtson of Vancouver reached the semifinals in the girls 14s singles tournament, losing 10-7 in the third set to Viv Daniel of Seattle. Knudtson teamed with Daniel to place second in doubles. Daniel, who finished second in singles, defeated Ivana Ilic of Ridgefield in the singles quarterfinals.
Playing up two age divisions, Vancouver’s Julia Haynes won one singles match in the girls 16s tournament.
Hannah Gianan of Washougal reached the quarterfinals in girls 14s singles and in girls 16s doubles.
Faith Grisham of Vancouver reached the quarterfinals in the singles and doubles tournaments for girls 12 and younger.
CCRC series wraps up
Jesse McChesney of Vancouver won the final race in the Clark County Running Club’s series of summer 5-kilometer races.
The 25-year-old won the 5-kilometer run on Wednesday along the Columbia River Waterfront Trail with a time of 15 minutes and 18 seconds. Oscar Bauman, 40, of Vancouver also finished in under 16 minutes with a time of 15:40.
Shannon Porter, 21, of Washougal, was the fastest woman. She finished in 18:04.
The final race in the club’s summer series of 13 Wednesday evening runs was completed by 114 runners.

Youth soccer tourney canceled
The Kohl’s U.S. Youth Soccer American Cup tournament in Vancouver has been canceled. According to organizer John Samwel, not enough teams registered for the tournament that was scheduled for Saturday at the Harmony Sports Complex.
New youth lacrosse club organizing
Valhalla Lacrosse, a new lacrosse program to Southwest Washington, is organizing fall and winter programs.
The schedule includes an indoor league that begins play in September, select team tryouts in October and a tournament for middle school players in November.
Heading up the club are Josh Peck and Danny Ernst.
Peck played four years of college lacrosse and was a member of a national championship team at Johns Hopkins. Ernst played for the Portland LumberJax of the National Lacrosse League.

B.G. Chamber slates golf tournament
The 15th Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce Golf Classic will take place on Sept. 5 at The Cedars on Salmon Creek Golf Course, 15001 NE 181st St., Brush Prairie. The tournament starts at 1 p.m. and costs $45, $40 for members of the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce.
