The Portland Winterhawks expect more than 90 players to be on hand today when the Western Hockey League team opens training camp.

Players are scheduled to report to Portland for fitness testing today. The team’s training camp Neely Cup tournament will run Thursday through Sunday at the Winterhawks Skating Center in Beaverton.

The intrasquad tournament is free and open to the public. Players will be divided into four teams for the tournament. Games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the third-place game will be at 8 a.m. with the championship set for 10:30 a.m.

The defending Western Hockey League champions will play preseason games in Everett on Aug. 30, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, and in Kennewick on Sept. 6 and Sept. 7.

The 2013-14 regular season opens Sept. 20 against Prince George at the Moda Center. The Winterhawks will raise their 2012-13 WHL championship banner prior to that game.

On Tuesday, the Winterhawks announced that tickets for the opening night games are now on sale through Winterhawks.com and at the Rose Quarter box office. The first 12 Winterhawks home games will be played in the Moda Center.
