A Ridgefield man died in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday evening on Interstate 5 in Castle Rock.

John E. Pratt, 58, was driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata south on the freeway when the vehicle went off the left side of the roadway just before 5:30 p.m., according to Washington State Patrol.

The vehicle went several hundred feet on the grassy median before returning to the highway, crossing all three southbound lanes, then going off the right side of the road and striking a tree, WSP reported.

Pratt was sent to St. John Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Trooper Will Finn said that although the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.

“It was possibly a medical issue,” he said. “When aid showed up, there wasn’t enough damage to the vehicle for a fatality collision.”
