Colby Wait-Molyneux of Vancouver won the Washington State Bicycle Association Time Trial Championship on Sunday in Tenino.
The 19-year-old won the race for top riders by one minute with an average speed of 30.2 mph over the 24.85-mile course.
His winning time of 49 minutes, 26.29 seconds was one minute ahead of Ian Crane.
Wait-Molyneux and Crane both ride for Seattle-based Hagens Berman Cycling.
A 2012 graduate of Skyview High School, Wait-Molyneux is attending Clark College while pursuing a competitive cycling career. As a teenager, he represented USA Cycling at junior racing events in Europe.
Next on Wait-Molyneux’s race calendar is the Eugene Celebration Stage race, Aug. 23-25. His 2013 race schedule will conclude Sept. 7-8 at the Green Mountain Stage Race in Vermont.
“This year is a lot about getting experience,” Wait-Molyneux said.
He said the highlight of his season was the Joe Martin Stage Race in April at Fayetteville, Ark. There, he led the competition for riders younger than 23 for the first two days of the challenging four-day event, part of the USA Cycling pro series.
Gymnast will compete at USA nationals
Naydenov Gymnastics gymnast Jordan Chiles will compete in the women’s junior sessions at the USA Gymnastics P&G Championships in Hartford, Conn.
Her sessions are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday and 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Chiles, 12, is eligible to compete in elite meets because she qualified in March as a USA Gymnastics Junior International Elite gymnast.
Local man contributes to club’s rugby title
Vancouver native Tim Stanfill set up the final scoring play on Sunday as Old Puget Sound Beach Rugby Club of Seattle won the USA Rugby Men’s Club 7s National Championships.
Stanfill made the tackle that forced a turnover, leading to the try that finished off a 26-5 win over the Denver Barbarians in the championship of the weekend tournament in Pittsburgh.
This is the second time in four years that the Seattle-based club has won the national sevens championship.
Rugby sevens matches feature two seven-minute halves. Matches are played on a full-sized field used by 15-man rugby teams. Rugby sevens will be part of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.
Stanfill is one of several former Central Washington University rugby players who were on the Seattle-based championship team. Old Puget Sound Beach went 6-0 at the two-day national tournament, winning three pool-play games then three championship playoff games.
Local youth shares third in Hogan Cup
Brian Humphreys of Washougal earned a bronze medal at the 45th Eddie Hogan Cup Team Matches golf tournament.
Humpreys shot even-par 144 for the 36-hole tournament played on Saturday and Sunday at Riverside Golf and Country Club in Portland. Playing for Team Oregon, Humphreys shot even-par 72 each day.
Team British Columbia won the tournament, led by the 3-under-par score of Kevin Vigna. Two players finished two strokes back to earn silver medals and Humphreys was one of two players to get bronze medals.
Youth soccer teams win at Mount Hood tourney
Several Clark County teams fared well at the Mount Hood Challenge youth soccer tournament, played Saturday and Sunday at venues in the Portland area.
FC Salmon Creek Nemesis 98 won the premier division for girls under-15 teams. Washington Timbers Burgundy 98 won the Silver division in the same age group.
Pacific FC Vipers placed second in the high school girls Gold Division, the second level for high school teams.In the girls high school Silver Division, the Pacific FC 96 Avalanche placed first and the FC Salmon Creek Nemesis 96 placed third.
In the second division of the boys under-15 age division, Pacific FC Orange Cheetahs placed second in their playoff bracket, which featured teams that placed 5-8 overall in pool play. Washington Timbers boys 98 won the playoff among the four teams with the least success in pool play.
In the top playoff bracket for boys high school premier teams, Pacific FC 95 Navy shared third place.
Area drivers place at Woodburn Dragstrip
Jamy Bland of White Salmon was runner up in the pickup trucks division during the 35th Annual Lucas Oil Thunder Truck Drags on Aug. 3 at Woodburn Dragstrip in Woodburn, Ore.
Also in the pickups division, Martha Brett of Brush Prairie lost to champion Jerry Durant Jr., in the semifinals.
The races featured many kinds and sizes of trucks, racing in eight categories.
McChesney runs to 2 wins in CCRC series
Jesse McChesney of Vancouver went two-for-two in the Clark County Running Club’s Leverich Park 5-kilometer runs.
McChesney, 25, won the Aug. 7 race with a time of 16 minutes, 2 seconds. On July 31, he covered the course in 15:22 to win.
Oscar Bauman, 40, ran second on Aug. 7, 10 seconds behind McChesney. A total of 92 runners finished that race.
The final two races of the 13-week 2013 CCRC Summer Series will be out-and-back runs along the Columbia River waterfront starting and ending at Marine Park. Wednesday’s run starts at 7 p.m. and the Aug. 21 run at 6:30 p.m.

Golf event to benefit Hudson’s Bay H.S.
The Hudson’s Bay Foundation Best-Ball Golf Tournament will be played on Friday at Lakeview Par 3 Golf Course.
Cost to play is $50, $200 per foursome. The event, which tees off at 4 p.m., includes nine holes of golf, dinner and a beverage.
The tournament is a fund-raiser to benefit students and programs at Hudson’s Bay High School.
