Today is election day for 125,973 Clark County voters, who will decide who advances in three Vancouver city council races and five other rural contests.

Ballots must be postmarked by today or turned in before 8 p.m. to one of the county’s authorized ballot drop sites, including the box placed in the middle of West 14th Street, east of the elections office on Franklin.

As of Monday, the elections office reported 20,842 ballots had been returned, a rate of 16.5 percent. Observers expect about at 20 percent turnout after all the ballots have been received.

Results should be available shortly after 8 p.m. on the county’s website and on columbian.com.

There are three city council races on the ballot in Vancouver, a single city council race in Battle Ground, Washougal and La Center, and seats on the Washougal school board and Clark County Fire & Rescue. The top two finishers in each race advance to November’s general election.
