Nominations sought for Columbia River seine advisory board

Nominations will be accepted through Aug. 22 for a five-person advisory board to help the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife develop a commercial seine fishery on the lower Columbia River.

Applications should be submitted to Ron Roler, Columbia River policy coordinator, at ronald.roler@dfw.wa.gov to by postal mail to the agency at 2108 Grand Blvd., Vancouver, 98661.

The board will help implement a policy developed by the Washington and Oregon fish and wildlife commissions calling for fisheries promoting the use of alternative selective gear, such as purse seines and beach seines.

The number of seiners will be limited.

Board members will serve two-year terms and will review state rules relating to the seine fishery. Board members need to be representative of the industry.

Nominations must include the nominee’s name, address, telephone number and email address; relevant experience and reasons for wanting to serve; explanation of the nominee’s communication skills, and name and contact information of any individual or organization submitting a nomination.
