Daniel R. Butler, 55, of Portland was in critical condition Sunday night at a local hospital with injuries sustained in a Saturday night accident.

The Washington State Patrol said Butler was eastbound on state Highway 14 at 6:23 p.m. when he attempted to take the Ellsworth Road exit. The 2001 Ford Ranger pickup that Butler was driving left the road, traveled 300 feet through bushes and struck a tree.

He was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center.

The WSP said the cause of the accident was inattention and noted the truck’s wheels were “off the roadway.”
