This week, Clark County and counties across the country will celebrate National Farmers Market Week.
National Farmers Market Week runs Aug. 4-10. Clark County Commissioner Steve Stuart issued a proclamation July 30 in support of the county’s vibrant markets.
By the end of 2012, there were more than 7,800 farmers markets across the U.S. — a 10 percent increase in just one year. Clark County is home to seven markets.
Area markets have farm, food and craft items. Clark County has markets open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Vancouver, Camas and Salmon Creek markets accept SNAP (formerly, food stamps), WIC and senior farmers market nutrition program checks, as well as debit and credit cards.
The Salmon Creek Farmers’ Market this year introduced a program just for kids, called Produce Pals. Kids get $2 tokens with which the child can purchase any produce he or she wants at the market.
