Waves of participants will take on the Spartan Sprint, a 4-mile course of challenging obstacles that range from giant mud pits covered with barbed wire to hurdles of flame. Spectators are invited to cheer on the athletes at the gladiator pit finish line while enjoying the festival area, music and fitness challenges. There will be Spartan Races for kids starting at noon, featuring a 1/2- and 1-mile courses.
When: The first wave starts 8 a.m. today and Sunday.
Where: Washougal MX Park, 40205 N.E. Borin Road, Washougal.
Admission: $20 to $25 for spectators, $25 to $30 for kids races. The deadline to register for the race has passed.

1. Sipping support
The fourth-annual Sip and Stroll is a self-guided tour of 35 wine and craft beer tastings at participating merchants in downtown Vancouver. There will be a free shuttle service along the route. Admission includes a commemorative glass, tastings and merchant discounts. Proceeds from the event benefit the Hough Foundation.
