A Vancouver man barricaded himself in his Maplewood apartment for nearly five hours early Friday before surrendering to a SWAT team.

Police were called to an apartment unit in the 3100 block of East 18th Street about 12:30 a.m. for a report of a disturbance with a weapon involving two men who lived at the residence. During an argument, one of the men, later identified as Scott W. Martin, 42, pulled a knife and cut the hand of the other man, who lives with Martin, Vancouver police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

The victim left the apartment, but Martin barricaded himself inside.

Arriving officers were not able to make contact with Martin, so they called for the Southwest Washington Regional SWAT team, Kapp said.

Police made entry into the apartment about 5 a.m., Kapp said, and Martin surrendered without further incident.

He was taken into custody on suspicion of second-degree assault. The victim suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
