Former Seahawks and Penn State running back Curt Warner will be the keynote speaker on Sunday for a reception honoring high school seniors who played football in Southwest Washington.
The Clark County Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame will hand out college scholarships to six graduating seniors during the event at Hudson’s Bay High School. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the 6 p.m. program.
the event is open to the public. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased at the door.
Warner, who now lives in Camas, was inducted into the National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame in 2009. He was voted first-team All-Pro in 1987 and played in three Pro Bowls over seven seasons with the Seahawks.
During the event, a total of $15,000 in college scholarships will be handed out, divided among three linemen and three backs. This is the 21st year that the Clark County Chapter has handed out scholarships
A total of 31 players were nominated by their coaches for scholarship consideration.
The nominees are: Kevin Haynes of Battle Ground; Jack Beall, Connor Maloney and Jabari Marshall of Camas; Clayton Frank and Remick Kawawaki of Columbia River; Ben Childs and Will Sauter of White Salmon; Anthony Thomas of Evergreen; Saul Santacruz and Taylor VanHeck of Fort Vancouver; Jacob Gardiner of Heritage; Noah Schultz-Rathbun and Jesse Tonkinson of Hockinson; Raymond Figuracion and Romel Taruc-Sarchi of Hudson’s Bay; Josh McNeal of La Center; Russell Culverwell and Bennett Muasau of Mountain View; Preston Brooks and Nick Gawley of Prairie; John White and Ian Williams of Ridgefield; Erik Powell of Seton Catholic; Rutger Bialkowsky and Jacob Schneider of Stevenson; Willie Lopez of Skyview; Trent Cowan and Matt Reeves of Union; Eric Birnel and Zach Lacey of Woodland.
