Three gymnasts from Clark County will be among the participants in the USA Gymnastics Men’s Junior Olympics National Championships. The meet runs Thursday through Sunday at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.
Two Vancouver Elite Gymnastics Academy gymnasts — Nicholas McAfee and Trace Jacquot — will compete in the first session of the meet at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday.
Andre Hufnagel of Battle Ground will represent Multnomah Athletic Club of Portland in the pommel horse event on Saturday.
Gymnasts had to qualify at regional championship meets to participate in the national championships.

King’s Way LAX drops close match
Seven consecutive goals helped visiting Auburn Riverside rally for a 12-11 win in a boys high school lacrosse match on Friday at King’s Way Christian.
The result moved Auburn Riverside (7-2) in the South Sound Division of the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association’s top classification. King’s Way (6-4) is second in the division after a third consecutive narrow loss.
Attackmen Evan Ramirez and Connor Dyehouse each scored three goals for King’s Way. Clayton Frank had two goals and three assists and two goals, and mid fielder Jack Beall scored twice. King’s Way goalie, Conrad Littlefield made 13 saves.
King’s Way travels to Tahoma High School in Covington on Friday for the first of three consecutive road games.
In the second division, Union Lacrosse beat Camas 7-4 on Wednesday at Pacific Middle School in a clash of first-year programs.
Trey Chambers had two goals and an assist for Union, which draws its players from the Evergreen Public Schools high schools. Bryce Tabbut had a goal and recovered 10 ground balls for Camas.
On Saturday, Union (4-6) defeated South Kitsap 14-4. Union completes its schedule Friday by visiting Selah.
Camas (3-5) lost 16-0 to Seattle Prep on Saturday at Doc Harris Stadium. This week, Camas is scheduled to host Forest Grove, Ore., for a nonleague match on Wednesday at Doc Harris Stadium, then play at Richland on Friday and at Selah on Saturday.
ELC girls lacrosse at home today
A second consecutive girls high school lacrosse state playoff berth is within reach on Tuesday for the Evergreen Lacrosse Club. ELC will finish out its regular season at 6 p.m. by hosting Graham-Kapowsin at McKenzie Stadium. A victory in the contest would put ELC in line for one of two automatic playoff berths from the Nisqually Conference.
Evergreen won a key road contest on Saturday, defeating Tahoma 11-7.
The team will honor 11 seniors prior to today’s contest.
Evergreen’s original season finale, which was slated at North Kitsap on Saturday, has been forfeited to ELC. The 16-team state tournament will open first-round play Monday, May 6.
High school rugby playoffs begin
The Battle Ground Bulls and the Prairie Wolf Pack open the high school rugby playoffs on Saturday with matches at Delta Park in north Portland. Battle Ground will face West Linn at 10:30 a.m., Prairie will play Oregon City at 9 a.m.
On April 27, Battle Ground (5-2) finished off the regular season with a 34-24 win over West Linn. Tries were scored by Trevor Ingram with two, Daniel Monen, Bruce Yarwood, Ben Wheeler and Wyatt Webb. Monen also kicked two conversions. Ingram was named man of the match, according to Bulls coach Daniel Simental.
Unbeaten Lincoln defeated Prairie 27-10 on April 27. For the Wolf Pack (3-4), Brothers Hayden Perrin and Dallin Perrin scored tries for Prairie.
In the Oregon Youth Rugby division for teams that draw players from multiple high schools, the Clark County Warriors defeated visiting Bend 42-7 on Saturday to improve to 7-0 in league play. Details from that match were not reported. Clark County (7-0) finishes its regular season by visiting Pendleton, Ore., on Saturday.
In high school girls rugby on April 27, Grant of Portland defeated Battle Ground 35-0. The Battle Ground girls open the playoffs at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Delta Park against North Clackamas.
Ride Around Clark County
The Vancouver Bicycle Club is staging the 30th-annual Ride Around Clark County on Saturday.
Riders can choose among four distances: 18 miles, 34 miles, 65 miles, or 100 miles. All riders will start and finish at Hanna Hall on the Clark College Campus.
The course and day-of-ride registration open at 6:30 a.m. Riders must be on the road no later than 9 a.m. and the courses close at 5 p.m.
