Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has opened a temporary hiring center today with plans to hire 65 full- and part-time employees for its first “neighborhood market” grocery store in the area. The store is under construction and will open this summer in the Vancouver Plaza shopping complex in a portion of the former WinCo Foods space.
The hiring center is a few blocks west at 5201 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., where applications will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Applicants also can apply online at http://www.careers.walmart.com.
Wal-Mart offers benefits to eligible full- and part-time employees, according to a written statement issued on behalf of the company. The average wage for full-time hourly associates is $13.13 in Washington.
Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart — which refers to individual stores as a “Walmart” spelled without the hyphen — is trying to grow its neighborhood market store concept to compete head on with other food stores. The smaller Walmarts carry groceries, prescription drugs and sundries and are less than half the size of the company’s big-box SuperCenters.
