A motorist apparently fleeing a trooper about 8 p.m. Sunday took the northbound Interstate 5 exit at 99th Street, lost control and collided with five other vehicles, the Washington State Patrol said. At least four people were injured.

The area is just west of Highway 99 in Hazel Dell.

Trooper Will Finn said the driver of a 2008 Honda Ridgeline was taken into custody. Two people from the Honda fled the scene; one was caught and the other was still being sought at The Columbian’s press time.

“The trooper indicated to communications he had the driver at 98 (mph),” Finn said of the pursuit.

As things were shaking out Sunday night, Finn said “at least two people are in custody and one still outstanding.

“Four people are being transported for possible broken bones and ‘disfiguring’ injuries. All persons being transported are adults. One person being transported is believed to be the driver of the Honda. Alcohol appears to be a factor.”Finn was not sure where the driver was coming from when the trooper spotted him heading north.

“We have detectives en route,” he said late Sunday night.

Names were not available at The Columbian’s press time.
