Thorns beat Red Stars

Foxhoven, Morgan score in 2-0 victory

The Portland Thorns FC remained unbeaten on the season with a 2-0 road win Saturday over the Chicago Red Stars.

Late goals from Danielle Foxhoven and Christine Sinclair provided the margin of victory as a crowd of 2,855 watched the National Women’s Soccer League match at Benedictine University Sports Complex Stadium in Lisle, Ill.

Foxhoven, who came on at halftime for Angie Kerr, broke through with an rebound goal off an Alex Morgan shot in the 70th minute. Sinclair secured the win in the 81st minute by converting from an assist from Morgan.

The win keeps the Thorns FC (two wins and one tie) atop the National Women’s Soccer League standings. Portland visits the Washington Spirit next Saturday at 4 p.m. PDT.

The Thorns do not play at home again until May 16.
