Colby Gilbert of the Skyview track and field team team was voted The Columbian’s high school athlete of the week for the weeks of April 15-20 in a vote by fans on Facebook.

Gilbert collected 43 percent of the 680 votes cast to edge out Mountain View’s J.T. Kaul, who had 42 percent.

The Oregon Relays brought out the best in Gilbert as he won the 3,000 meters in Eugene with a time of 8 minutes, 29.29 seconds, topping a field of 35 of the top runners from several states. He also took fourth in the 1,500.

The other athlete of the week nominees were Alexa Efraimson (Camas track), Emmanuel Gil (Hockinson soccer), and Harli Hubbard (Camas softball).

Nominees are posted on The Columbian’s prep sports blog at www.360preps.com by Monday. Voting starts Monday and continues through 8 p.m. Thursday at www.facebook.com/360preps.
