VSAA, Columbia River get national recognition

Two Vancouver district schools have made the U.S. News Best High Schools 2013 rankings.

Vancouver School of Arts and Academics received a gold medal and was ranked 10th in the state and 357th in the nation. VSAA had 48 percent of its students pass at least one Advanced Placement class.

Columbia River High School received a silver medal and was ranked 40th in the state and 1,390th in the nation.

More than 21,000 public high schools in the nation were evaluated. Academic indicators included college readiness index, writing and reading proficiency, and student/teacher ratios. Measurements included student performance on state exit exams and internationally available exams on college-level course work such as Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate programs.

Of the 587 high schools in the state, 10 schools received gold medals and 45 received silver medals for 2013. For the full report go to usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/washington.
