A Vancouver man was in critical condition Wednesday night after he was injured in a crash early that morning that was caused by a motorist who fell asleep at the wheel, according to the Oregon State Police.
Bruce Becker, 63, was driving a 2004 Honda motorcycle north on Interstate 205 in the Clackamas area when he was struck by a 1995 Jeep SUV driven by Christopher Pearson, 49, of West Linn at about 5:15 a.m.
Pearson was also driving north when police say he fell asleep at the wheel and drifted right into the guardrail before waking up, losing control and crashing into the motorcycle.
Becker was transported to Oregon Health & Science University with serious injuries. Police say he was wearing a helmet.
Pearson was not injured, but he was cited for careless driving.
