La Center Mayor Jim Irish will administer the oath of office to Police Chief Marc Denney during a public ceremony next month.

Denney’s swearing-in ceremony will happen May 22 at La Center City Hall, 214 E. Fourth St., following the 7 p.m. city council meeting.

Formerly of the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona, where he served as a commander, Denney was chosen from a nationwide field of more than 50 applicants.

He replaces Tim Hopkin, who retired last year after serving with the police department for more than two decades. Since September, Erin Nolan has served as the city’s interim police chief.
