PORTLAND — Foss Maritime says it’s selling its Columbia River business to Tidewater Barge Lines and laying off 60 workers.
Seattle-based Foss declined to elaborate on Monday’s state workforce notice. It has offices in Portland and Astoria.
The Oregonian reports the move will leave two main tugboat companies on the Columbia. Tidewater moves grain along the Columbia-Snake river system. Shaver Transportation also moves grain barges and transports river pilots and maneuvers cargo ships in and out of ports.
