The Vancouver Volcanoes fell short in their opening International Basketball League game Friday night, losing to the Bellingham Slam 116-92 at Bellingham’s Whatcom Pavilion.
The teams played an even first half, going into the locker room tied at 57.
The defending IBL champion Slam had a five-point lead at the end of three quarters, and put the game away with a 33-14 fourth-quarter advantage.

Vancouver will open at home Sunday, taking on the Slam at 5 p.m. at the O’Connell Center at Clark College.
