Repairs to state Highway 500 will cause temporary closures next week where it crosses Burnt Bridge Creek near St. Johns Boulevard, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Crews will repair aging expansion joints and install new seals. Expansion joints are set into the highway to allow sections of bridges to expand and contract in response to heavy traffic or changing weather, according to WSDOT.

The work will alternately close the eastbound and westbound sides of Highway 500 for four nights. The eastbound lanes will close at 10 p.m. Monday and Wednesday nights, opening at 5 a.m. the following mornings. The westbound lanes will close at 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, also reopening at 5 a.m. the next day.

Marked detours will guide drivers through the St. Johns Boulevard interchange ramps to get around the closures, according to WSDOT.

The work is part of the $48 million project that built a new interchange carrying St. Johns Boulevard up and over Highway 500.
