Vancouver will join more than 150 cities in concerted marches Monday across the nation to raise awareness about child abuse and how to help prevent and stop it.
The local rendition of the Million March Against Child Abuse is 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday at downtown Vancouver’s Esther Short Park, 610 Esther St., the centerpiece of downtown.
The event, part of an observation of National Child Abuse Prevention Month, will include a march around the park. Mayor Tim Leavitt will speak and host a pinwheel-planting ceremony from noon to 1 p.m. across the street at City Hall, 415 W. 6th St.
Local bands and musicians, including former American Idol contestant Britnee Kellogg of Vancouver, will perform throughout the day at the park.
