Clark County Fire District 6 has appointed Shawn Newberry to operations chief, filling a position that had been vacant for a year.

Having previously volunteered for the Tualatin Valley department in Oregon and in Gig Harbor in Pierce County, Newberry started with Fire District 6 in 1999. He has served as a fire captain, captain and training captain.

In the past 14 years at the agency, Newberry has served as the vice president of the International Association of Firefighters Local 1805 and as the wellness program coordinator.

Green said that for budgetary reasons, he had left the position vacant since May 2012, but said the agency could now afford to fill it.

Newberry will make a salary of $119,100.

“I am honored to have been appointed to operations chief,” Newberry said in a press release. “I’ve always taken great pride in working for Fire District 6 and look forward to taking our department into the future.”
