Author Douglas Rushkoff will offer two free public lectures this Thursday as part of Vancouver’s civic reading and discussion program called #nextchapter.
Rushkoff is a pioneer in the area of new media and popular culture. His most recent book is “Program Or Be Programmed: Ten Commands for a Digital Age,” which offers simple tips for moving through the digital era. Participants in the #nextchapter initiative had read the book and discussed its themes in a series of community-based discussion groups.
Rushkoff’s first lecture is called “Play, Participation, and Power in the Digital Age.” It will be from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Dengerink Administration Building, Room 111, at Washington State University Vancouver, 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave. Rushkoff will speak that evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the downtown branch of Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St., on “Thriving in the Digital Landscape.”
The community-wide reading and conversation program is sponsored by numerous government, education, and business organizations. It is designed to stimulate innovation and opportunities in the emerging digital economy.
