The fact that Chloe Bartek won the Chieftain Invitational wasn’t too surprising. The fact that the Columbia River senior won by just three strokes is a bit surprising.

Bartek, who has won a couple of district titles by double-digit strokes had to pull away late to beat Prairie’s Jamie Stilwell by three shots. Bartek shot a 77; Stilwell finished with an 80.

Bartek shot a 35 on the first nine, but Stilwell was just two shots back with a 37. Stilwell closed within in one stroke after 15 holes, but Bartek picked up a strong on 16 and 17 for the final margin.

Hockinson’s Kelsey Whiles was third (84) and Mountain View’s Abby Kadrmas was fourth (86).

Union took the team title with a score of 364. Mountain View (370) was second, followed by Battle Ground (381), Skyview (386), Camas (388) and Hockinson (389).

Stars of the day
