The role of the U.S. Army’s 104th Division — which was based in Vancouver for 65 years — in liberating a World War II concentration camp is the subject of a free military history talk Thursday.
Jefferson Davis, a retired Army major, will discuss the liberation of concentration camp Dora-Mittelbau at 8 p.m. at the 40 et 8 Chateau, 7607 N.E. 26th Ave.
The 104th Division, known as the Timberwolves, was stationed at Vancouver Barracks from 1946 to 2011. On April 10, 1945, the Timberwolves liberated the camp, which was part of a complex where slave laborers built the Nazi V-2 rockets. The missiles killed more than 2,500 people in England.
The presentation will include photographs of the camp, then and now, as well as a recorded oral history from one of the liberators.
