The Community Foundation of Southwest Washington’s annual celebration of local philanthropy is set for May 21.

The theme this year is “Better Together,” emphasizing how philanthropy works best when communities work together, and the luncheon will feature 10 interactive, high-tech banners that tell stories of collaborations that have benefited the region. The banners were designed by Washington State University Vancouver’s Creative Media and Digital Culture program; docents will be on hand to help guests download a mobile device application called Aurasma, which works with the banners, or download the app ahead of time at http://bit.ly/cfswwar (from mobile devices only).

Honorees at the event will be Jim and Kay McClaskey, receiving the 2013 Philanthropists of the Year award, and outgoing Foundation President Richard Melching, who will receive the Friend of the Foundation award. Melching plans to step down this year; Jennifer Rhoads, the Foundation’s current vice president of development, is the president-designate.

The luncheon begins with social time and interactive banner exploration at 11 a.m.; the program and lunch are at 11:45 a.m. Tickets are available at http://cfsww.org or 360-694-2550.
