A Tigard, Ore., man has been charged with several crimes related to a March 24 hit-and-run auto crash that killed a Vancouver resident.

Bryan Onderdonk, 28, was indicted by a Washington County, Ore., grand jury on charges of felony hit and run, first-degree burglary, second-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief and third-degree theft.

Onderdonk is in jail on $500,000 bail. His next court appearance is April 15.

Marcos Castillo, 50, of Vancouver killed in the 8:54 a.m. crash at Southwest Farmington Road and Oregon Highway 219, in a rural area of Washington County south of Hillsboro. The front end of Onderdonk’s BMW sedan T-boned the driver’s side of Castillo’s Saturn subcompact sedan.

A sheriff’s deputy spotted Onderdonk at the crash scene and ordered him to stop. Instead, Onderdonk allegedly ran into nearby woods. Police used tracking dogs and apprehended him at 1:08 p.m. after a four-hour search.

During the search, Onderdonk allegedly broke into a home on nearby Bald Peak Road, according to a news release.

Deputies said Onderdonk showed no signs of drug or alcohol impairment.

The road was closed for six hours as a crash analysis team investigated.
