Twenty-six area schools have been honored for achievement by state public education officials, including one school that’s among the highest achievers in Washington.

The local winners are among 381 schools selected for the 2012 Washington Achievement Awards. (There are about 2,300 public schools in Washington.)

Schools were recognized for being top performers in seven categories: overall excellence; language arts; math; science; extended graduation rate; closing achievement gaps; and high progress (only for schools eligible for federal Title I assistance programs).

Forty-one awards were given to local schools.

With four awards, Battle Ground’s CAM Academy was among the state’s highest achieving schools; it was one of only nine schools in Washington to be honored in four or five categories.

Evergreen Public Schools had the most overall achievement awards — 16 — among local districts. Evergreen also had 11 different schools recognized, tops in Clark County.

The awards, now in their fourth year, are sponsored by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education. Schools will be honored at a ceremony on April 30 at Kentwood High School in Covington.
