A Vancouver man was arrested after allegedly attempting to rob the downtown Vancouver branch of Chase Bank at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, prompting police to set up a containment zone around much of the central business district.
Robert D. Hobert, 56, was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of first-degree attempted robbery.
The suspect entered the Chase branch, 1205 Broadway, and presented a note to a teller demanding money, according to Vancouver police. The teller stepped away from her window out of view. When she did not return quickly, the suspect fled on foot through the bank’s north doors, leaving without any cash.
He was later apprehended near 13th and Esther streets in front of the Van Vista apartments complex and arrested in connection with the robbery.
Hobert has a criminal history dating back to 1978, according to online Washington Courts documents. Most recently, on March 18, a sexual assault protection order was filed against him.
