Power lines were knocked down along Northeast 219th Street west of Battle Ground after a noninjury accident about 11 a.m. Tuesday.
A teenage driver hit a power pole on Northeast 219th Street near Battle Ground at 11 a.m. Tuesday, causing a power outage and closing one of the main traffic routes into the city.
The accident left 643 Clark Public Utilities customers temporarily without power, according to spokeswoman Erica Erland.
Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy of Clark County Fire & Rescue said a 16-year-old Battle Ground boy was driving a Ford Ranger pickup eastbound on 219th when he lost control. The truck veered off the road and struck the pole.
The pickup continued another 30 yards before coming to a stop in a ditch. The boy, whose name was not released, was uninjured. Dawdy said he was wearing a seat belt and the truck’s airbag deployed, which probably saved him from injury.

The pole ended up tilting into another line and dropped live wires onto the highway. That prompted the closure of Northeast 219th Street, also known as state Highway 502, between 92nd Avenue and Southwest 20th Avenue in the city of Battle Ground for more than two hours.
Lights reportedly flickered around the city when the accident occurred.
Power was restored to 625 customers by 12:30 p.m., Erland said. Power to residents who live close to the pole was restored a short while later after utility workers fixed the tilted pole. Highway 502 was then reopened.
