Quick action by firefighters Sunday morning kept a maintenance shop fire in Battle Ground from spreading to a nearby paint shop and locomotive, officials said.

The shop is owned by the Portland Vancouver Junction Railway at 802 S.E. Second St., said Battalion Chief Tim Dawdy of Clark County Fire & Rescue.

He said the crews received the call at 5:19 a.m. and arrived within four minutes to find the building heavily involved with fire.

Damage to the shop was extensive, Dawdy said. He said 16 firefighters from his department and Fire District 3 brought the fire under control in 30 minutes.

The cause is under investigation. There were no injuries.

Acting Battalion Chief David Greenwood of Clark County Fire & Rescue said, “The two (fire) agencies working together quickly stopped the fire and prevented it from spreading to a nearby locomotive and paint store.”
