• Marija Hobbs has joined the staff of the Foundation for Vancouver Public Schools as operations assistant. She will coordinate the Lunch Buddies and Young Women in Action programs along with administrative and marketing duties. Hobbs is president of the Eisenhower Elementary School PTA and is involved in the Ford Family Foundation.
• Christina Palena has joined the board of Must Love Dogs NW, a Vancouver-based dog rescue organization. Palena has a doctorate in veterinary medicine from Washington State University. She works at Mountain View Veterinary Hospital in Vancouver.
• Jared Sanford has been hired as chief executive officer for Lifeline Connections, a private, nonprofit center for chemical dependency and mental health treatment in the Clark County Center for Community Health. Sanford will begin Oct. 8 at the state-licensed facility. He most recently served as the director of a substance abuse treatment facility in Ogden, Utah.
• Ophthalmologists Dr. Leo Kan and Dr. Kristin Rarey have joined the new ophthalmology clinic at The Vancouver Clinic’s Salmon Creek location, 2525 N.E. 139th St., Vancouver, set to open next month. Kan and Rarey specialize in the medical and surgical treatment of eye problems and will offer a wide range of eye care services for adults, seniors and children. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new ophthalmology center will take place at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 8.
• PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center Foundation recently elected the following new members to its board of directors: Albert Angelo III, executive with The Al Angelo Company; Bob Bernhardt, co-owner of Coldwell Banker Commercial Jenkins-Bernhardt Associates; Dr. John Greves, cardiologist with The Vancouver Clinic; Patrick Sheaffer, chief executive officer of Riverview Community Bank; Janis Wyatt, financial adviser with LPL Financial.
The following community members were given director emeritus status: Dr. Stan Freidberg, a retired cardiologist; Ed Lynch, community volunteer; and Sally Schaefer, community volunteer.
