A countywide ban on outdoor burning has been extended due to stubbornly dry conditions. The ban will continue at least through mid-October, according to Clark County Fire Marshal Jon Dunaway.
The ban affects all land-clearing, yard debris and recreational fires. The restrictions are in response to high fire danger caused by extremely dry conditions across the region. In Vancouver, for example, Pearson Field has recorded just 0.04 inch of rain since July 21, according to the National Weather Service.
Clark County’s current ban took effect Sept. 20. Vancouver, Camas, Washougal and Cowlitz County have also prohibited recreational burning. The state Department of Natural Resources has also extended its own burn ban through Oct. 7, the agency announced Friday.
Forecasters expect dry weather to continue well into next week.
