The Portland Winterhawks host the Kelowna Rockets both Friday and Saturday at the Rose Garden. They then make their six-game road trip through the Western Hockey League’s East Division, meaning they won’t play another home game until Oct. 20.
The Winterhawks opened their season last weekend by winning two of three games.
Nic Petan led the way, scoring four goals and adding four assists to earn the first WHL player of the week award for this season. The 17-year-old center is in his second season with the Winterhawks.
Petan’s plus-6 rating trails only teammate Troy Rutkowski, who leads the WHL with a plus-7 rating. Rutkowski has six assists, which also leads the WHL. His six points are tops among all defensemen and tied for third overall in league scoring.
