The American Red Cross has launched a smart phone app designed to deliver critical information to people living in earthquake-prone areas such as the Northwest.
The “Earthquake App” gives users earthquake notifications showing the epicenter, magnitude and intensity maps during an emergency, plus the location of open Red Cross shelters, emergency checklists, an audible alarm and other features. The app also includes an “I’m safe” messaging feature to allow users to reach family through social media outlets. Preloaded content brings up emergency action steps even without mobile connectivity, according to the Red Cross.
The app is available in English and Spanish, and works on both iPhone and Android device platforms. It follows two earlier Red Cross apps centered around first aid and hurricane information.
The Earthquake App is available on both Apple and Google online stores. Users can search for “American Red Cross” to find it, according to the organization.
