Non-league football: Montesano 49, Woodland 7

A week after losing their home stadium to a fire, Montesano picked up a much-needed boost.

Quarterback Matthew Jensen started off the game against Woodland by throwing an interception, which eventually lead to a touchdown by Kyle Hendrix.

Unfortunately for Woodland, it would be their only touchdown of the game leading to their first loss of the season.

“Tonight we got a wake-up call, we got punched in the mouth and didn’t know how to handle it,” Woodland head coach Mark Greenleaf said.

From Hendrix’s touchdown forward, Montesano dominated the Beavers’ defense.

Elliot Mendenhall had three of his team’s seven touchdowns, one by air and two on the ground, rushing for 117 yards and receiving 93. Montesano quarterback Matthew Jensen had 178 yards passing and recovered a fumble on defense for a touchdown.
