AT&T’s new high-speed wireless network, called 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) is now available in Vancouver, Camas and Washougal as part of a larger rollout in the Portland metropolitan area.

The launch in the Portland area and several other cities is in advance of Apple’s release today of its iPhone 5, the first iPhone equipped for the higher-speed technology.

AT&T says LTE technology is capable of delivering mobile Internet speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G. Verizon has offered its LTE network since July 2011, which can be used on some smartphones that use Google’s Android operating system.– The Columbian
