Monica Bottelberghe, Columbia River swimming
Columbia River swimmer Monica Bottelberghe was voted The Columbian’s fall sports athlete of the week in a vote by fans on Facebook.
Bottelberghe collected 40 percent of the 411 votes cast by fans to beat out Karlee Lubenow of Prairie volleyball. Lubenow had with 23 percent.
Bottelberghe won the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle in state-qualifying times last week, giving her four events in which she has achieved state-qualifying marks this season.
Other nominees included Hockinson soccer player Kavita Battan, Camas golfer Brian Humphreys and Washougal cross country runner Isaac Stinchfield.
Nominees are posted on The Columbian’s blog at www.360preps.com on Monday. Voting starts shortly thereafter at www.facebook.com/360preps and continues until Thursday evening.
