Ridgefield — Teachers in the Ridgefield School District made the most of National Arts in Education Week, Sept. 9-15. Everything from hands-on skills development at all levels to explorations of art history, art in nature and art around the world all were explored — and will continue to be explored throughout the school year. Teacher Alan Adams is working with kindergartners at Union Ridge Elementary School on shape names, while older students are working on a “grid enlargement,” in which each student works on a section of a large group painting. “Community building activities show students how to be successful together as a team,” Adams said. Eighth-grader Autumn Presson added, “Art provides a kind of escape from the rest of school. I really like all the possibilities; there’s no wrong answer and no wrong turns.”
