Delightful late-summer weather continues with fair skies and warm daytime temperatures. The only drawback, of course, is the smoky skies, though they do contribute to some beautiful sunsets.
With an offshore flow of air from the northeast, afternoon highs reached 90 degrees Monday in many areas including mine here in Salmon Creek. Not too shabby for mid-September. Highs the rest of the week will be in the 80s. The weekend still looks fair, but forecasts show a low heading through to our south that could bring some interesting weather in the form of thunderstorms. We’ll wait and see how that develops.
In contrast, freeze watches and warnings and frost advisories were issued for parts of the upper Midwest. Overnight lows were expected in the 20s, putting frost on the pumpkins for sure. It won’t be long before we hear of snow flying in those areas. Not unusual for this time of the year?
Weather observer Tyler Mode of Battle Ground sent me an email Monday: “My average high through Sunday for September is 80.6 degrees. That’s over five degrees warmer than my average high for July. Not only is the weather much drier this September, with the warmer temps I’m watering much more often. This is GREAT for the tomatoes though!”
