Olympia — The Washington Department of Ecology has approved updated shoreline master programs for the cities of Vancouver and Camas.

The programs include plans for future shoreline development and new development ordinances for preservation.

The updates are required under the state’s 1972 voter-approved Shoreline Management Act.

“Shorelines are important to both the quality of life and the economy in Washington,” said Sally Toteff, Ecology’s southwest regional director. “Protecting and preserving them helps improve water quality and ensure our state is a great place to prosper, live and play.”

Vancouver’s plan guides construction and development along the city’s 26 miles of shoreline including the Columbia River, Vancouver Lake and Salmon and Burnt Bridge creeks. Camas’ shoreline includes the Columbia and Washougal rivers, Lacamas Creek and Lacamas Lake.
