CAMAS — It was one of the largest Class 1A teams in the state going up against a 1A team with 1B numbers. It was a team with a football tradition against a team playing varsity for the first time this season.

All that led to a lopsided Trico League score Saturday at Doc Harris Stadium.

Woodland scored five touchdowns in the first quarter and cruised to a 66-6 victory over Seton Catholic.

Woodland, a 2A team last year, is one of the power teams in the Trico this season. Seton Catholic opted up from 1B numbers in order to play 11-man football and be in the Trico, which is easier on the travel schedule than the closest 2B league.

The Cougars know they are going to take their lumps in this first season of varsity.

The Beavers, meanwhile, are looking to improve each week as they set their sights on a league title.

Eli Whitmire had two touchdown runs on his only two carries of the game. He also had a punt return for a score. Cy Whitmire scored a defensive touchdown with a fumble return. Hunter Huddleston threw two touchdown passes for the Beavers, who scored the first 59 points of the game.

Erik Powell caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Riley McShane, giving the home crowd a score to cheer.

The Beavers then scored on a long run on the game’s final play.
